KIRBY DICK . Director, Executive Producer
Kirby Dick is an award-winning Los Angeles filmmaker. He directed the internationally acclaimed SICK: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF BOB FLANAGAN, SUPERMASOCHIST, which won the Special Jury Prize at the1997 Sundance Film Festival and Best Feature Film Prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival. The film also earned a 1998 IFP/West Spirit Award Nomination and an International Documentary Association Nomination for Best Feature Documentary of 1998. The film was released theatrically by Lion's Gate Films. In 2001, Dick directed CHAIN CAMERA, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, aired on Cinemax and the BBC, and continues to pull in strong audiences in arthouse theaters and on campuses nationwide.
His next film, DERRIDA, premiered at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, won the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco Film Festival and is now in release by Zeitgeist Films. Dick has most recently completed SHOWGIRLS: GLITZ & ANGST for HBO's prestigious AMERICA UNDERCOVER series and is now in post production on an intensely intimate documentary about patients in a Los Angeles hospice program.
EDDIE SCHMIDT. Producer
Eddie Schmidt first collaborated with Kirby Dick on his acclaimed documentary
SICK, and went on to produce his next feature, the Sundance favorite CHAIN
CAMERA. Most recently, Schmidt produced Dick's new film SHOWGIRLS: GLITZ &
ANGST, which will air on HBO's AMERICA UNDERCOVER in 2003.
Elsewhere, Schmidt has lent his producing talents to the hit syndicated series BLIND DATE and the A&E documentary series, THE COMPETITION. Schmidt has also produced DVD material for several films, including BOOGIE NIGHTS and SEVEN. He is the author of the popular humor book THE FINGER.
Schmidt is currently producing Kirby Dick's latest feature documentary about the patients in a Los Angeles hospice program, also for HBO/Cinemax.
DODY DORN. Producer
Dody Dorn's film and sound editing career includes an eclectic range of award-winning
documentary and feature film projects. Dorn was editor of Christopher Nolan's MEMENTO for which she was
nominated for an Oscar , an A.C.E. Eddie, and for Editor of the Year, from AFI. The successful collaboration continued with Dorn as editor of Nolan's follow up film, INSOMNIA, starring Al Pacino and Robin Williams. Dorn is currently editing a new film from director Ridley Scott. She began her career as a sound editor on
such Hollywood classics as SILVERADO, THE BIG CHILL, CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD, and MRS. SOFFEL. In 1990, Ms. Dorn
won the Golden Reel Award for Best Sound on James Cameron's, THE ABYSS.
MATT CLARKE . Editor
Matt Clarke most recently edited SHOWGIRLS: GLITZ AND ANGST for HBO's
prestigious America Undercover series. He also edited the prize-winning
feature documentary DERRIDA, which premiered in competition at the 2002
Sundance Film Festival and is currently in theatrical release by Zeitgeist
Films. Prior to that, Clarke edited the critically acclaimed CHAIN CAMERA,
which premiered at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival. Clarke was trained by Oscar-nominated editor Dody Dorn (MEMEMTO). He is currently
completing editing his third feature documentary for HBO entitled LIVING
THROUGH DYING.
BLAKE LEYH . Composer
Blake Leyh is best known for his work as Sound Designer and Composer for films. His sound credits include
TITUS, THE ABYSS, and BARTON FINK. His feature film scores include SICK: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF BOB FLANAGAN SUPERMASOCHIST, STAR TIME, SECOND COUSIN ONCE REMOVED and THE SERPENT'S TALE. He has
received two Golden Reel Awards for his work on THE ABYSS and BARTON FINK, and THE ABYSS was nominated for
a Best Sound Academy Award. Leyh is formally trained in classical electronic music, and spent several years
composing music for street theater groups in England. He had a solo operatic role at the age of 13, and sang
with the Buckinghamshire Youth Choir.
Recent projects have included sound design for Julie Taymor's film TITUS, kung fu sounds for Ang Lee's
CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, a collaboration with cello-diva Madigan Shive for Kill Rock Stars, and
writing a soundtrack Canto-pop song for Hong Kong film star Jo Kuk. Leyh's solo instrumental CD "Shadow
Economy" was released in April 2000. Leyh currently lives in New York City.
